Lighthouses and stuff

So we took a ride into Santa Cruz today. Heard something about a lighthouse in the area. Yep, there's a lighthouse in the area.....

This guy hangs out at Lighthouse Beach State Park in the harbour of Santa Cruz. Beach is a strange way to describe it though. Cliffs would have been better...
See what I mean! A good bit of the coast around here are cliffs, with some sandy coves thrown in here and there.

There are also a lot of piers built out here with buildings on them housing shops, eating places, etc....

Here's a look at the one in SC...

It should be obvious by now that we are fond of the coastal areas. We always have been and always will be. So far, the coast of California has been....... less than we would have hoped for.... maybe that will change as we get along the southern coast....

Anyway, we took a drive on down to Monterey today, but I don't want to get into that too much. The amazing part of that drive was the VAST amount of vegetable farming here. I mean MASSIVE farms. What is being harvested right now are strawberries, brussells sprouts and artichokes. Not sure how the chokes and sprouts are harvested but the strawberries are all hand picked by thousands of workers bent over the fields moving along the rows. Think about that the next time you go to the grocery store. By some strawberries and thank those folks that make doodley squat to pick 'em. We stopped at a roadside veggie stand bought some on the way back. Fresh as my tuna at the bait shop... :-)

Tomorrow we are gonna work up towards Half Moon Bay. Thursday we leave for Marina California and will do the Monterey and Carmel areas like they should be done. Then it's down towards Pismo beach for a few days and then we are gonna try and find Bill and Ted in San Dimas. Anyone know them? :-)
