Power for kites

Hitting the international kite festival should indicate that it might be a bit.... windy......

Gusts last night up to 50mph, most of the night, in a travel trailer will cause rockin' and rollin'... but, Stevie Ray's admonition doesn't apply.... Google it....

It was rough and wet, but probably not as bad as the Fayites had it. Pop, you and the Jude still here?

Got up this morning to relative quiet and we all hit the beach. Nothing on the beach but the Jellyfish that got washed up during the storm but we had a big time walking it anyway....

Later in the day we went down and checked out this....

See, it's ok to get fat and sit around lookin' good!

There are some crabby folks around here too, besides me.... :-)

BTW, Pop, I had some killer Crab Benedict for breakfast this morning starring some fine, but dead Dungeness spiders..... Good enough to make ya wanna slap ya mamma..... ;-)

The Kite festival is going full steam ahead, even with the weather. Here's some of what we saw down near the boardwalk....

And this........... The big one was way cool....

I suspect that tomorrow might be a better day for the kites. Less rain. This is definitely a big deal around here though.

Another BIG deal around here is......... cranberry's. Yep, we are in OceanSpray heaven. There are cranberry bog's all over the place out from the city and OceanSpray processing facilities all over the area. Next time you are in the grocery store, buy a bottle and help support these folks.... Dunno why I thought those commercials were up in the north east.

We also were quite disappointed today....when we drove out to Cape Disappointment. Couldn't see anything except for the friggin' rain....... For those of you that don't know, Cape Disappointment is the most dangerous waterway in the US. The Columbia River empties into the Pacific here and the shoals are killer along with the tides. The U. S. Coast Guard, certain members of which I am very proud of, have their Advanced Rescue Swimmer course here, along with their Heavy Motorboat school. This is some serious stuff that these young men and women do and learn here. The base is in the fishing village of the Port of Ilwaco where many folks make their livings from the sea and the partnership between the Coasties and the Fishermen is solid.

Hopefully tomorrow we will get some pics of the TWO lighthouses that mark the mouth of the Columbia and the shoals that are built by the river.

As with much of the Washington and Oregon Coast, industry here is Fishing, Crabbing, and Timber.
Just in case any of you lose your freakin' minds and decide to ride around the country, and you ALL should do that very thing. This is an area that you MUST come see too.

This is a grey whale skeleton. They are frequent visitors to the coast here, starting in October when they head back south from Alaska. They are fond of their whales around here too...

And, some folks have some cool outbuildings.. :-)

Night campers.....

Cool pics, as always. Yes, we're here for the moment. The storm is predicted to head back West Thursday and now it looks like it's going to come pretty near hitting us square on or close enough. Hopefully by the time it crosses back over the state it "might" lose some of its umph. Bet we could fly some major kites here in a few hours!
Hang on, my little gypsies.

Hey Mike, Angela's big thing she is into with her Biology teaching is sand, you look at it under a microscope and you can see all of the different types and fossles in the grains. If you can and when you get the chance can you and Karen load up empty 20oz bottles full of sand, attach a note or write on the bottle where it is from and if known the beach name. I know she would love you for it. I brought her back bottles from Myrtle Beach, SC and Oak Island NC. Thanks a bunch. If you do this save them up until you have a few and send them all at once, then drop me a line and let me know how much the shipping was and I will pay you back. Thanks again.

Mike and Karen,
each time I get on here to read a couple of posts or to catch up, I end up spending 15 minutes reading all of them up until the very latest one. It's kind of like reality tv, you have other things you should be doing but you just can't stop...
Hope yall are having fun

Well I think we will be fine as far as Florida Fay is concerned. They forecast 6 to 10 inches of rain, but the winds are expected to be less than 40 MPH. We can use the rain.

Ummm, that crab Benedict sounds wondeful. Hope you didn't have to peel them as you ate it.

We just had come cranberries with chicken dressing I made. I did know that the cranberry bogs were out there. Real neat the way they harvest them.

Speaking of kites, did you happen to catch the news shot of our human kite during fays lunge at the east side of the state. An idiot was kite surfing and fay blew him into the side of a building, nearly killing him. dumb!!

Take care,

Pop

LOL!!! So I hadn't checked this out in a day or 2, but I just played the video of Forest playing "get the dog" aka "get the human" & it drove Angel & Dixie absolutely nuts!!! They have been running around the house like crazy barking & trying to find the mystery dog!

Love,
me :-)

I talked to my guy out there and there is a swimmer school in session right now. They should be doing the vertical surface rescue stuff next week so you should be able to see some action..... so no 47 footers out in the bay? That's wierd.

love ya'll

Matt, Collection started yesterday. First bottle from Long Beach Washington, well marked on the bottle. I'll get up three of four beaches and send them on. Hope you got home ok and are not feeling too bad!

Hola Russ! Get your ass back to work! No goofin' off. Yep, we are still having a big time. Seeing cool places and learing new stuff everyday!

Pop/Jude. Glad ya'll did not get blown away! and glad the well is filling back up too. No picking the crabs pop when you hit them in the feeding houses around here. :-)

Lindsay, He is digging the game again. I'll send more to drive yours nuttier!

Michael... weather report yesterday had the seas at 11 to 16 feet, IN THE MOUTH OF THE COLUMBIA, yesterday and growing as the tides grew. Saw no one playing while we were out at the point.

Love ya'lll
