First, let me say to Russ and Michael...... Bite Me......
This is finer than frog hair!
So we decided to get up early this am and try and beat some of the crowds. It kinda worked. Old Faithful is about an hour and half drive from here in Gardiner. But it's only about 52 miles. The roads in the park suck...... big time.... and then you have the idiots that stop in the road to take pictures of the squirrels....... :-)
Nah, usually it's the buffalo's or the elks but they won't pull off to the side, they have to stop in the road. And then there are the idiots that will follow the bears into the woods trying to get a picture. I really wish we'd read more about the idiots getting eaten.......
Suffice it to say earlier is better.....
So our camp is three miles from here.....
From here it's all uphill.... :-) About 4 miles from here, they keep graders and front end loaders stationed because the mountain above the road is trying to reclaim the space. Lots of BFR's that roll down and stop in the road....
The temp this morning when we left was around 55 or so. That being the case and based on where we are, we saw a lot of this too. Freaky coming over some of the hills and seeing them.....
There are several areas in the park that have these fumaroles, some you can walk close to, others that are not accessible.
But the object of our mission today was the Mack Daddy. Old Faithful. This pic is a shot of him while he's on break. We got there just after he had finished a show. So we had about a 90 minute wait for him to play again.
Cool enough, but he's really just a fart in the wind...... :-)
A truly impressive sight. This lasts about 5 minutes or so and then he lays down for another 90..... Worth the price of admission!
There is a VERY cool lodge here also. Old Faithful Lodge. Massive building made for the old growth timbers
My connection has really slowed down so I'll break it off here....
stay tuned...
