Angel Fire, Eagle Nest and the Carson National Forest

Today was interesting and fun. Decided to go hit some Geocaches in the above names areas. It's in the 8000+ feet elevation range. Here's some of what we found. That white stuff...... yep, it's snow. It's July.
Feels great up here!

The Carson National Forest is here. It's named after Kit Carson. Had a house down in Taos. House is still here.

The forest is awesome. A few of the caches required some decent hikes up into and then back out of the canyons.
Forrest is leading us up one of the trails in the forest. :-)
He was really diggin' the smell of the elk doo, or the deer doo, or the mtn goat doo, whatever it was. I declined the opportunity to smell it though.
There were also a ton of chipmonks running around this trail. They were enjoying driving Forrest nuts.

No really....they do. Right here......

Just not today. :-)

In Angel Fire, there is a Vietnam Memorial. Nice place that honors some of our forgotten hero's.

This is Eagle Nest lake. A beautiful mountain lake at about 8000 feet. I'm guessing it's full of trout cuz there were a bunch of folks flyfishing it.

There are also Prairie dogs around it. Forrest found a new game. It's called shove your head, up to your shoulders down a hole and see if you can catch a lil furry critter that's hiding from you. He was not anymore successful at that as he was at hittin' Fifi.... But he sure had fun tryin'!

From there we went on up into the higher country. There is a small river that runs along through this canyon that folks trout fish in too. Water was somewhere around 45 degrees or so and crystal clear. Would like to see this area in the winter and ski Angel Fire.

Still having fun, I see. I'm not sure these old bones can ski anymore BUT this old bod could still do the bar at the lodge apres ski! I'll just wait by the fire while the youngun's get cold and wet...
Keep your socks dry, my little gypsies.

Yep. Still livin' and learin'. I betcha you could still handle it. I'm sold on the fact that I'll be skiing again within the next year or so. Loving' the altitude and the chill now.....
