Morning in way south Texas.... damn this state is big!
The ride down from Houston to South Padre was not a bad ride at all. Lots of farm country and corn and millett and rice being grown. Was interesting how far inland the coastal sand dunes were too.
Yeah, so we got to Port Isabel where we were planning on staying. The RV park we picked was not a hell of lot better than the dump we stayed at in Mobile. After we got unhooked and set up, we took a drive over the bay to the island. There are two county parks here that have RV sites and one commercial one, a KOA. The county parks were full with nothing available. The KOA had sites available. KOA's are a hell of lot more expensive than most RV parks but we bit the bullett and opted for a few days here. Took us less than an hour to get back to the dump, hook up and come over here. We were lucky at the dump park. Their office is closed on Sunday so you just find a spot and pay up the next morning. Didn't cost us a dime to learn this lesson. :-)
Haven't spent any time looking around the island yet, but from a distance it looks like a shitload of Highrise condo's with smaller ones tucked in between. Pretty much the same as it looks all the way around the Gulf coast. :-) Feels more like Mexico here than it does the US though. Lots of Mexican plates on the cars, trucks, and suv's. Looks like they come here to vacation.

Glad you were able to recover from the dump site without a cost. You need to get one of them rv campsite atlas, I think they do a pretty good job of rating the sites, plus good for planning and locating camp sites.
Hi to Forrest and Karen. Have fun!!
Love ya, Pop
Got three of them Pop. They all rated that park at 3 stars or better. Been YEARS since any of them were there actually looking at it though.
Have come to realize that those rags are just a rough guide line. Further evidence that we don't make any reservation over a day.
