Brownsville

So today we decided to head down to Brownsville. We had the thought that we would find a kennel to board Forrest so we could go to the zoo. Wellllll...... apparently folks around here don't do a lot of animal boarding. So we went anyway and loaded up the mutt for the ride. We thought that maybe the zoo would have a kennel onsite but nope.

There's a beach south of Bville called Boca Chica. We thought we'd ride out there a take a look. Turns out it's a good haul out there with a whole lot of _nothing_ along the way. It got real flat again and full of cacti and other tropical and desert plants all mixed together. Really pretty cool.

There's a huge area that probably has water at certain times but was bone dry today. Probably 25 or better square miles of it.

Here's a shot of Forrest standing at the edge of it.

Headed back to the truck and K.
The road that we were on dead ended at the Gulf about another 5 miles from here. Beaches with no condo's, no houses, no bars, no resturants, nada... just surf and sand.

BTW, as with every beach we've been on since we left, Forrest Pooped on this one as soon as he hit the sand.

This guy was sitting on this pole on the way out to the end of the world. Waiting on breakfast I guess. He was still there when we came back by too.

Ouch......

History.....

I had a friend in Alaska that lived in Brownsville--she hated it, nothing much good to say about Texas either.
I tried to enlarge the pic of the pole-sitter but couldn't get it to come up. So, what kind of bird is it?
Sleep tight, my little gypsies.

Can understand her comments about brownsville proper. Wouldn't agree about the area outside of B or Texas as a whole though. I love it so far.

Bird was some kind of hawk.
